WHAT IS PG VG?

What kind of liquid is it actually?

PG / VG are liquids used in all kinds of products. You will find PG VG in food products, cosmetics, medicines and of course e-liquids. PG / VG are widely used because they are good carriers for aromas (flavorings). This is because the PG VG liquid itself has certain properties such as:

  • Completely transparent
  • Contains little odor
  • Almost tasteless

When the PG / VG is heated it will turn into vapor, which can be inhaled and releases visible smoke. Both PG VG have different properties when heated. Many e liquid manufacturers therefore also use a mix of both liquids.

PG (Propylene Glycol)

PG stands for Propylene Glycol and is the thinnest of both liquids and is also very similar to water. It also gives a tickle in the throat (throat hit) during inhalation and therefore especially novice users of e cigarettes like this effect. E-liquids with a higher PG are more often used in smaller e cigarettes. The solution of the flavors (aromas) are absorbed a lot better here. You probably already use PG every day, but you do not know what it is in or you did not even realize it. Below we have made an example.

VG (Vegetable Glycerin)

VG stands for Vegetable Glycerine and is the thickest of both liquids and also looks a lot like syrup. Due to the density of the liquid, VG also produces the most vapor. VG is soft on the throat and does not itch (which PG does have). Without adding aromas, VG itself already has a slightly sweet taste. Many Sub-Ohm e liquids often also have more VG in their liquid because of the good properties. But still need PG. You probably already use VG on a daily basis without knowing it, so you will find a list of a number of products below.

What is the best PG VG ratio?

There is not one answer to what the best PG VG ratio is, as this has a lot to do with the type of e cigarette that is used. The ratio of the PG VG can also give a completely different experience. That is why it is important to know exactly what you are going to use the e liquid for so that you can choose the right PG VG yourself.

  • 70PG / 30VG = Tickle in the throat.
Do you like the tickle in the throat also called (throat hit). Then it is better to look for a liquid that contains more PG than VG. The PG gives more that sharp feeling in the throat as many ex smokers are used to. PG often gives a more artificial taste.
  • 70PG / 30VG = Tickle in the throat.

  • 70VG or more = Big clouds.
If you are looking to blow big clouds or do tricks then an e liquid with a high VG is exactly what you need. VG causes large and thick clouds, keep in mind that an e liquid with a high VG content must be able to fit into your e cigarette.

The best PG / VG ratio of e liquid has a lot to do with the type of e cigarette, if you are not sure which PG / VG fits in your e-cigarette, you can use this rule of thumb: Small e cigarettes: up to 50% VG, Large e cigarettes: 50% VG or more. This will rarely result in a burnt coil. At Damp-e we have a very wide range of e liquids. Do you want to buy an e liquid with a certain VG content?
